Basic Dreadlock Starter Kit

Our basic dreadlock starter kit has the essentials for creating and maintaining your new dreadlocks.

This pack contains:

• 1 x LOCK UP FAST Dreadlock Shampoo
• 1 x Dreadlock Comb
• 1 x Steel Crochet Hook 0.6 mm

1. Prepare your hair by washing with the Lock Up Fast dreadlock shampoo.  This can be done several times if your hair is silky as you want as much residue removed as possible.  Lock Up Fast shampoo removes residue and product build up from the hair allowing your hair to knot more easily.  Ensure your hair is fully dry before moving onto the next step.
   
   
2. Using the tail end of the comb separate a section of hair for your first dreadlock.  Now use the comb to start backcombing, pushing a small amount of hair up at a time.  Be careful not to push too much up at once.  Make small pushes upwards with the comb until you reach the end of your hair.  You can go back over it to push the knots up a bit more if you like.
   
   
3. Palmroll the dreadlock to condense the knots.
   
   
4. Now use the crochet hook to pull in all the loose hairs and really tighten the dreadlock up.  Be careful with the hook not to use too much force, you don't want to break the hair.  When using the crochet hook you only want to pull the hook (and the hair it has catched) back into the centre of the dread, do not pull the hook all the way back out the other side as this usually results in broken and/or hair pulled out the other side.  The goal is to pull the loose hair into the centre of the dread.  Rotate the dread around to get all sides.  If you are unsure how to use the crochet hook we suggest you look up a few instructional videos on Youtube.  

Wash your dreadlocks weekly with the Lock Up Fast dreadlock shampoo which will assist in tightening up your dreads.  Clean hair dreads best and leaving oils to build up in your dreadlocks may hinder the dreading process.  After washing separate any dreads that may have started sticking together.  Then palmroll your dreads while they are still damp.  Palmrolling helps prevent any lumps, bumps or loops forming and also helps to smooth down frizz.

The crochet hook can be used to do any further maintenance you desire.
